Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has limited community activities, one of
which is the learning system. The Indonesian Ministry of Education has established
a new learning system, namely a blended learning where students have to learn
online and also have to come to school, so blended learning is a mixed learning
between online and offline. This blended learning certainly has positive impacts in
suppressing the spread of Covid-19, but on the other hand it also has negative
impacts on mental health such as having concentrating difficulty and inhibiting
interactions with friends.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of giving Mental Health First Aid
(MHFA) as an initial intervention on mental health status for students aged 15-18
years while doing blended learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Research Methods: This research design used a quasi-experimental-pretestposttest
with control group design with a sample of 35 respondents for the
intervention group and 35 respondents for the control group. Sampling technique
was purposive sampling. The instrument used in this study was the Strengths and
Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The use of Strengths and Difficulties
Questionnaire (SDQ) questionnaire to assess the mental health status of
respondents who was carried out with a pretest and posttest then to obtain results
before and after being given the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) intervention, the
statistical test used in this study was the Wilcoxon and test Mann-Whitney.
Results: test analysis Wilcoxon showed that there was an effect of Mental Health
First Aid (MHFA) on the decline in mental health with a p value = 0.001 and the
results of the Mann-Whitney showed that there was a difference in the effect of
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) between the intervention group and the control
group with value p 0.000.
Conclusion: There is an effect of giving Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) as an
initial intervention on mental health status for students aged 15-18 years while
doing blended learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Suggestion: The next researcher evaluates the long-term effectiveness of using
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) interventions and provides special training for UKS
officers in each school to implement Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) in order to
prevent mental health in students.
