ABSTRACT

Background: Depression is a psychological problem that frecuently occurs in the
elderly. The problem is characterized by feelings of deep sadness that have an
impact on social interaction disorders. The reason for choosing the title of
correlation between depression and hypertension is due to the high prevalence of
depression and hypertension at the Dinoyo Public Health Center, Malang City.
Objective: This study aims to examine the correlation between depression and the
incidence of hypertension in the elderly .
Research Methods: This study used a Literature study, the search engine/
database used was Google Scholar Science Direct in the last 5 years in Indonesian
and English with keywords in the search that matched the inclusion and exclusion
criteria.
Research Results: From 10 articles that have been reviewed, there are 8 articles
which state that there is a correlation between depression and the incidence of
hypertension in the elderly, namely Journal (1-8). Which states that there is a
correlation between depression and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly (p
= 0.000 < 0.05). Meanwhile, 2 journals state that there is no correlation between
depression and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly (P=0.583), (P=0.583).
Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a correlation between depression
and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly.
