Background: Hypertension is the first cause of death every year in the world.
Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment. Therapy with
antihypertensive drugs is often associated with unpleasant side effects that affect
a person's quality of life but the type of antihypertensive is not the only major
factor affecting the quality of life of hypertensive patients.
Objective: To examine the correlation between types of antihypertensive drugs
on the quality of life of patients with hypertension.
Methods: This research used a quantitative method with a cross sectional
approach which was carried out on 65 hypertensive respondents at the Dinoyo
Public Health Center, Malang City. The instruments used were checklists and
questionnaires.
Results: The results of this study showed that there was no significant
correlation between the type of antihypertensive drug and the quality of life of
hypertensive patients (p=0.742). Out of the 65 respondents the majority used
CCB drugs with low quality of life as many as 17 people (15.5%) and 11 people
(12.5%) were in moderate quality of life.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that statistically there is no correlation between
types of antihypertensive drugs with quality of life.
